POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the p! hysician, the Medical Assistant provides assistance with patie! nt visits and procedures and also provides clerical office support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides services in compliance with all state and federal laws governing the hospital's operations.
Consistently maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, employees, computer or other information that might jeopardize the privacy of others
Collects, interprets and documents vital signs and basic assessment of body systems, questions abnormal data
Recognizes obvious changing patient situations (e.g., deterioration, crisis)
Follows policies, procedures, and protocols with limited variation and within scope of clinical ability
Schedules patient appointments with the hospital departments including surgery, lab, and radiology. Pre-certifies procedures with insurance companies
Assist with maintenance of medical records. Communicate with the providers and the patient regarding the conditions and recommendatio! n of the provider. Must document timely, accurately and concisely, communication with the patient
Evaluates medical supplies and medications for proper storage, disposal and utilization
Operates medical equipment under guidance and direction of physician
Transports patients (some of which are incapable of movement without assistance) to and from patient room
Responsible for care and safety of patients in the department
Under direction of the provider, takes patient's blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height and weight, etc., and inputs information into patient records
Makes follow-up calls on patient lab services under direction of the physician
Brings results of patient testing to physician's attention
Maintains on-going cleanliness of patient care areas to meet infection control and safety standards
Participates in other hospital committees, process improvement and other teams as appropriat! e
Performs other duties as assigned

Ability to use accurate, clear and concise oral and written communication
Ability to maintain effective working relationships
Ability to explain procedures and requirements to the public and employees
Ability to critically think and analyze and communicate findings
Ability to work independently and perform assignments with minimal direction
Ability to operate a variety of automated office equipment such as personal computers, copy machines, calculators, fax machine, multi-line telephone systems, etc.
Professional Requirements
Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean
Completes annual educational requirements
Wears identification while on duty
Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Knowledge of electronic medical recor! d or billing systems preferred. Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school preferred.
LICENSE(S): None required. Medical or Nursing Assistant technical training/certification desired.
CERTIFICATION(S): Basic Life Support (BLS) required and either C.N.A. certification or C.M.A. certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) months' experience required (Medical Assistant I)
Twelve (12) months' experience required (Medical Assistant II)
