REGISTERED NURSE 3 RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Registered Nurse 3 provides comprehensive nursing services to individual inmates in a Corrections Facility setting. Evaluate and respond to inmate medical complaints, emergencies, and requests for care. Interview, examine, draw blood, perform lab work, diagnose and assess inmate needs. Administer and dispense medications. Monitor and provide follow-up care. Conduct chart audits. Counsel inmates on public health issues. The Registered Nurse 3 regularly performs work with no supervisory nurse, nurse practitioner, or medical doctor on the premises.

REGISTERED NURSE 3 REQUIREMENTS:
Four years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience in a public health or correctional facility setting in addition to a current Oregon Registered Nurse License. Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and good driving record. Ability to speak, rea! d and write both English and Spanish is preferred but not requ! ired.

Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of professional nursing principles, procedures, and techniques for the full range of medical and post-surgical conditions found in home, school, or clinical environments.

Skills: Skill in screening and assessing levels of wellness. Skill in providing health instruction. Skill in interviewing and counseling techniques. Skill in using a wide range of clinical equipment.

Abilities: Able to provide individual and family counseling, guidance, and health instruction to help patients understand how to prevent disease and maintain good health. Able to take medical histories, conduct physical examinations, and communicate results of laboratory tests. Excellent oral communication ability to explain, persuade, and reason with a wide variety of patients and their families having widely varying cognitive abilities, cultural backgrounds, and education levels.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONM! ENT:
The work involves reaching, standing, and bending in the assessment and treatment of patients. There is considerable walking and climbing of steps in visiting homes, schools, and correction facilities. Work requires exposure to infection and contagious disease. When making field visits, the Nurse goes outside in any kind of weather.
