1.1 Must possess knowledge of:
1.1.1 Professional care theories, principles, practices, disease process and procedures! .
1.1.2 A variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects,
side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of
the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Knowledge of
the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient conditions
including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
1.1.3 Computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data
entry and automated medical records.
1.2 Must have a minimum of 12 months experience in a pediatric setting.

2 TYPE OF WORK. The duties include but are not limited to the following:
2.1 Performs comprehensive health assessments of children from birth through
eighteen years of age. Comprehensive health assessment includes obtaining a !
complete and accurate health history from the patient! and/or parent/legal
guardian; performing a complete and accurate physical examination; and
administering selected measures of physical, cognitive, and psychosocial
development in accordance with the standardized guidelines for specific
measurement tool (e.g. DDST II).
2.2 Orders/performs selected diagnostic tests and procedures (laboratory and
radiological) as indicated by the patient's condition.
2.3 Using the database obtained in the health assessment and diagnostic studies,
interprets clinical findings and develops a complete, accurate differential
diagnoses/health care problems list.
2.4 Identifies and appropriately uses available resources in meeting the health care
and health education needs of patients and families, including but not limited to
consultation with the pediatrician, other physicians, and allied health professionals.
2.5 Within the scope ! of practice, develops and implements health promotion,
illness/injury prevention and therapeutic plans congruent with the client's
diagnosis, health care problem or need. Provides developmentally appropriate
anticipatory guidance education, and counseling to patients and their families.
2.6 Provide outpatient services for pediatric patients as scheduled by the Government.
2.7 Performs procedures for patients as scheduled to include, but not restricted to,
venopuncture and bladder catherization.
2.8 Conducts immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems as they
occur.
2.9 Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of
optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.
2.10 Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all
established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in ! the medical treatment
facility. Provides care within ethical a! nd legal boundaries.
2.11 Assesses patients.
2.12 Effectively communicates and collaborates with a diverse group of people for the
purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education
to benefit the patient/family and organization. Effectively uses appropriate
communication format in addressing professional issues.
2.13 Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education and telephone
triage of patients. Telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation includes the
determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, Clinic,
home care) and follow-up care as required. Prescribes and communicates
treatment plans and patient teaching in accordance with established pediatric
protocols.
2.14 Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both
written and electronic, of all activity! in accordance with requirements.
2.15 Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergency situations.
2.16 Skilled in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such
as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers,
nebulizers, and other unit specific equipment.
2.17 Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with
(IAW) unit guidelines.
2.18 Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as
appropriate.
2.19 Encourages team building and enhances work knowledge by crosstraining/
augmenting other units as appropriate.
2.20 Serves and participates in committees, functions and other meetings as directed.
Provides relevant and timely information to these groups, and assists with
decision-making and process improvement. Participates in cus! tomer service
initiatives, and medical readiness activities, d! esigned to enhance health services.
2.21 Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety
IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement
initiatives.
