Job Description:
We are seeking a temporary RN for Obstetrics. For a duration of approximately 16 weeks with the possibility of extension. Target start date of August 12, 2013.
Assists the Unit Manager in ! coordinating unit activities to assure optimal patient care. A! ll job duties are performed in a manner that demonstrates the Ketchikan Medical Center values of caring, respect and professional excellence toward patients, families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and volunteers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
' Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care to the laboring and post-partum patient, her infant(s) and family with professional excellence.
' Uses nursing process in the delivery of nursing care in a manner consistent with PeaceHealth values and department policies and procedures.
' Uses nursing process in the delivery of nursing care in a way that demonstrates effective problem solving and professional judgment.
' Documents patient care in the patient care plan with accuracy and timeliness to ensure continuity of care.
' Coworkers are addressed in a friendly, helpful manner in accordance with PeaceHealth standards.
' Patients and visitors are addressed in a friendly, helpful manner in accordance with PeaceHeal! th values.
' Department safety and maintenance is ensured in a manner consistent with the hospital and department policies and procedures.
' Performs other duties as directed in a cooperative and efficient manner.
' Professionalism, clinical motivation and participation in continuing education is pursued to ensure employee effectiveness.
' Achieves mutual goals as listed on the previous performance appraisal.

Qualifications:1. Education:
Graduate of an accredited State Board of Nursing approved nursing program.
2. Licensure:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Alaska required.
3. Experience:
A minimum of 1 year clinical experience as a Staff Nurse required. Previous Labor/Delivery/Post-Part! um/Newborn nursing experience required. The ability to work in an inter! mittently fast pace, high volume environment is required. Commensurate with educational preparation demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs for nursing care.
'Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire and must remain current throughout employment.
'Current NRP certification requiredand must remain current throughout employment.
'ACLS certification preferred.
'AWHONN Intermediate fetal monitoring certification required as current within last 2 years.
4. Interpersonal:
Must have cooperative working skills, leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of patients, families and staff.
Must be well organized, flexible and able to function independently.
The ability to demonstrate a courteous, caring and understanding attitude toward patients, families, co! -workers, visitors, physicians and volunteers is required.
5. Physical:
Must have ability to: tolerate long periods of sitting, walking or standing; communicate verbally with individuals in person or on the telephone; read and write text; solve complex problems; respond quickly to department or hospital emergencies.
Must also be able to: lift equipment and supplies weighing between 25 and 50 pounds; independently push and pull beds or equipment on wheels weighing up to 500 pounds to other areas of the hospital on occasional basis; independently move, lift and position patients weighing up to 200 pounds and assist others in moving, lifting and positioning patients weighing over 200 pounds (using judgment appropriate to patient's condition regarding need for assistance); bend and stoop frequently; read and interpret applicable diagnostic screens; hear and interpret Doppler, stethoscope and electronic fetal monitor sounds; use senses (visi! on, hearing, smell, touch) to recognize changes in patient's condition;! hear codes and patient calls/alarms; perform CPR in emergency situations.
