THIS RECRUITMENT IS OPEN INTERNAL TO CURRENT UA EMPLOYEES ONLY AS A PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY. This position is term funded through June 30, 2014 and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion. UAF Community & Technical College is seeking an experienced individual interested in teaching in our Diesel/Heavy Equipment Program. Teaching assignments may include day, evening or weekend classes and occasional travel. UAF Community & Technical College serves the community college mission of UAF in the greater Fairbanks area. UAF CTC's core purpose is community driven education focusing on workforce development, academic preparation, and lifelong learning. UAF CTC is located in eight Fairbanks locations: CTC Main Campus (604 Barnette St)., Hutchison Institute of Technology, University Park Building, A! viation Hangar at Fairbanks International Airport, Northern Military Programs on Eielson AFB and Ft. Wainwright, Pipeline Training Center and the Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School. It also serves Delta Junction/Fort Greely/Clear. UAF CTC offers 40 associate degree and certificate programs responsive to local and regional career-technical training needs, focusing especially on high-growth, high-demand workforce needs such as allied health, nursing, process technology, information technology, applied business, human services, and many others. In addition, UAF CTC provides career training and development opportunities through workforce development and professional development programs. Staff and faculty have forged close ties with businesses and local agencies, enhancing instruction and increasing job placements. UAF CTC has an annual budget of approximately $14 million, employs a diverse population of approximately 40 full-time faculty and over 300 adjunct faculty who ! are represented by two academic unions, 40 staff, and a non-traditional! and culturally diverse student population of approximately 3,300 students. This position supports the UA's bipartite/tripartite mission of performing teaching, research and public service.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.
- Strong skills in computer applications and diagnostic equipment, particularly those related to diesel/heavy equipment mechanics and teaching. -Proficient welding and fabrication skills -Industry field experience
Associate degree or comparable private sector and/or military training.
Length of time and type of experience required for this position.
Five years of recent full time (hands on) industry specific experience in the diesel / heavy equipment trade (or related); OR five years of current experience teaching diesel / heavy equipment (or related) technology at an accredited institutio! n; OR five years of a combination of both.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position.
- Excellence in technical skills related to Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technology -Familiarity with arctic conditions of Alaska -Knowledge of regulations (MSHAW/OSHA) -Journeyman level welding skills in SMAW and GMAW. -Experience in building relationships with private sector partners in program development and implementation -Experience working collaboratively with students, faculty and community members. -Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students and fellow faculty and staff, both orally and in writing. -Experience working with non-traditional and culturally diverse student populations.

Duty:
1) Teaching Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technology and related Industrial Education classes. Which may include:
- Diesel Shop Practices (shop safety and tool and quipment usage)
- Preventive Maintenance and Inspection of Equipment and Inspection of Equipment and Vehicles
- Internal Combustion Diesel Engines (Industrial)
- Power and Manual Transmissions
- Mobile Hydraulics
- H! eavy-Duty Electrical Systems and Electronics
- Logistics ! ul> Courses may be assigned during day, evening and weekend periods and may include off-campus assignment.
2) Conduct office hours for the purpose of assisting advising, and counseling students, and advise other faculty members regarding Diesel/Heavy Equipment technology-related issues. Create and maintain advisory committee.
3) Working in close association with private sector businesses to maintain cutting edge programs, opportunities for student practicum experiences, and pathways for employment.
4) Active networking with high school program faculty and counselors to promote collaboration and recruitment.
5) Participate in professional development activities consistent with teaching Diesel/Heavy Equipment Technology. Seminar/weekend training.
