For detail informations about this occupation opportunity please read the description below. Under close supervision, supports Case Managers in the department through scheduling,
reception, records maintenance, co! ordination with other hospital clinics, and general assistance.
Provides prompt response to phone inquiries, reviewing lab results, and
investigating insurance benefits. Schedules and insures patients have insurance for eligibility. Creates new records
for patients and update any changes affecting insurance and third party billing. Assists Case Managers in
maintaining a variety of files, logs and registers for the service center. Assists nursing staff with admissions, lab
order entry, radiology order entry, and retrieval of computerized forms and coordinate patient's surgeries with
general surgery field clinics and ensures appropriate follow up after field clinic.
Obtains medical reports or health information from other facilities or providers. Verifies and assures that records of
patient treatment are complete, accurate, and properly entered in the chart before forwarding to the Medical
Records department. Ensures all charts and medical ! records are available for scheduled appointments or as
req! uested. Under direction of the Case Manager, assists with routine referrals per standard protocol, schedules
diagnostic studies, clinic appointments and procedures, and ensures travel/quarters are arranged.
Communicates with other departments to coordinate with other departments at ANMC as needed. Utilizes a
tracking system for clients in the Alaska Native Medical Center's RPMS system to maintain an appropriate
database of clients requiring follow-up and assures appropriate follow-up of clients.
Handles routine referrals in conjunction with ANMC medical providers; schedules diagnostic studies, clinic
appointments. Insures travel and living arrangements for patients.
Performs clerical duties. Orders all office supplies. Acts as a back up for timekeeper. Maintains fax log for
department. Screens each referral for previous visits and eligibility status before determining appointment type and
tests needed prior to visit. Schedules same day ap! pointments and ensure all information pertaining to visit is
available. Schedules all tests needed prior to appointment using department guidelines.
Required Skills
Knowledge of customer service concepts and practice.
Knowledge of multi-line telephone systems operation.
Knowledge of privacy laws and regulations.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology and clinic systems.
Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
Skill in operating office equipment such as copiers and fax machines.
Skill in maintaining and updating clinical schedules.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
Required Experience
A high school diploma or GED equivalent AND Two (2) year of medical office
experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position requires the ability to sit for long periods of time. May occasion! ally be exposed to infectious diseases. ANMC is not a latex free enviro! nment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.
