The Family Advocacy Nurse (FAN) is responsible for the New Parent Support Program which falls under the Air Force Family Advocacy! Program. The New Parent Support Program is a prevention program offered to eligible military beneficiaries identified as at-risk for family violence with children up to three years old and pregnant spouses. Marketing and outreach to the target population and referral sources (i.e., OB staff) is an integral part of this program. The Nurse is responsible for implementing and supporting an effective screening process for family needs; use screening tools to identify at risk behavior in parents; conduct home visits to reduce the risk of maltreatment; and be sensitive to cultural difference and emphasis parents’ strengths.
40 hr work week, Monday through Friday; weekends and federal holidays off; no shift work
Education
Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN).
Experience
A minimum of two years experience within the last four years as a Community Health/Public Health Nurse and/or Maternal Child Health nursing experience; to include home v! isiting experience.
Excellent communication skills, verbal! and written, required.
Knowledge of early childhood growth and development highly desired.
Special Requirements/Certifications
Must be a U.S. licensed Registered Nurse; not under investigation or any adverse action pending from a Nursing State Board
Must have current BLS
1. A physical examination is not required
2. Immunizations, consistent with the medical treatment facility employee health program, are required.
