Department: Internal Medicine (4100)
This position is responsible for assisting the Department head in coordinating unit/clinic activities which assure optimal patient care. Supports and directs staff members in providing compassionate care and services to patients and families. Independent decision-making is expected in the execution of routine duties. May also be responsible for clinical staff orientation, ongoing education, coaching and compliance to standards. Oversees Family and Internal Medicine clinic direct patient care staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Supervi! se and assess clinical practice.
2. Supervise, coach and t! rain assigned direct patient care and non- direct patient care staff, where applicable, while providing leadership and serving as a resource in the overall delivery of patient care. This may include participating in hiring, firing, and staff performance/competency evaluations.
3. Plan and facilitate staff orientation.
4. Coordinate staffing to ensure adequate and appropriate staffing levels. If applicable, make staff daily assignments with input from Charge Nurse and Educator.
5. Provide input to the budgetary process and manage parts of the department budget as assigned.
6. Collaborate with other departments in meeting the needs of patients, families and other health care providers.
7. Establish and maintain effective physician and/or clinician relationships.
8. May perform staff nurse responsibilities as needed.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
 Graduate of an accredited school of nursin! g required. BSN preferred.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
 Minimum of five years acute care nursing experience with at least two years in a leadership role. Experience in related specialty area required with applicable clinical knowledge.
 Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
 Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Alaska.
 Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required at date of hire.
OTHER SKILLS:
 Strong organizational, administrative and problem solving skills
 Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
 Proficient computer skills including MS Office applications as well as clinical applications
