Further informations about this occupation opportunity kindly read the description below. This position is for a Nurse III, Nurse Manager at Alaska Psychiatric Institute, Alaska Recovery Center.

This position works 37.5 hours in a four-day workweek.

Tuesday through Friday from 6:00am until 4:00pm.

As directed by the Assistant Nursing Director, the Nurse Manager is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and review of the 24-hour nursing care provided on the assigned patient unit.

The person hired will have their primary role be treatment planner and director for patient care on a 10-bed Neuro Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for patients suffering from mental illness/dementia.

Most Important duties of this position:
In consultation with the unit Treatment Team, this position is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of their assigned unit treatment program and overall unit program.

In conjunction with the Nursing Shift Supervisor, you will supervise, evaluate, and counsel unit nursing staff regarding their performance issues.

Communicates, recommends, and monitors new programs, policies, and procedures. Implements and interprets directives from Nursing Administration to the staff.

Cognizant of difficult or dangerous situations and takes or directs appropriate actions to assure the safety of staff and patients. Recognize potential hazards to keep a safe and therapeutic environment.

De-escalates unpredictable, dangerous, or violent behavior. Intervenes non-verbally, verbally or physically with patients who may cause harm to themselves or others.

Acts as a Relief Nursing Shift Supervisor as needed. Maintains standards for Joint Commission and CMS visits. Acts as a Relief Admission/Screening Officer as needed.

Serves as a member of departmental and hospital-wide Quality Improvement Teams and projects.

Acts as a resource person with knowledge of community resources to which people can be referred to when they have either a crisis or other situation that does not require an admission.

Desired Strengths for this position:
Candidate with at least two (2) years of experience working as a staff RN in a hospital setting is preferred.

A current RN license in Alaska.

Candidate with experience working with mentally ill/developmentally disabled individuals and individuals suffering from dementia/Alzheimer's is preferred.

Experience in a supervisory position, including responsibilities in training, evaluations, and discipline of employees. Also, experience in a position where primary duties are staffing, scheduling, and organization and coordination of duties and services.

Must possess above average communication skills. Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of the workday and have the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of personalities.

Must possess organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and productively manage time, to ensure compliance with numerous deadlines.

Must be able to work effectively under pressure and with continual interruption, reorganizing priorities in our dynamic and frequently changing work environment.

Must be able to apply discretion in handling confidential information and situations, with a high degree of tact.

Ability to work independently and with good judgment.

Ability to work as a team member.

Must competently operate common computer programs, such as: e-mail, Microsoft Word, and Windows.

View Class Specifications for this job:
Special Note:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska is required.

Some positions are located in institutions providing care for psychiatric or developmentally disabled individuals. For these positions, one year of the required journey/lead level nursing experience must have been providing in-patient care on a continuous basis to mentally ill or intellectually or cognitively disabled individuals.

For some positions in this job class a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a school of Nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing or license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Alaska.

AND

Two years of professional nursing experience including one year as journey level registered nurse. With the State of Alaska, the latter experience is equivalent to Nurse II.

Other combinations of training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability; however, there is no substitution for the required training.
