Practices as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans (DHCV). The residential facility provides comprehensive residential care to homeless Veterans and provides mental health, social work and addictions treatment who present with urgent/chronic psychosocial conditions and/or functional decline.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES DAY, EVENING, NIGHT AND WEEKEND TOURS OF! DUTY.
COST OF LIVING ALLOWANCE (COLA) IS CURRENTLY 5! .57% AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE IN THE FUTURE.

DUTIES:
Carries out the most complex practical nursing assignments, including assignments for selected acute care, long-term care, ambulatory care, or psychiatric patients requiring skilled nursing care. Provides a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems. Accurately collects data on patients. Administers prescribed medications. Documents care accurately. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. Interacts with patients, family members, professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care, and with members of other services.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC R! EQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Must have graduated from a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accrediting agency and/or National League for Nursing at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Exceptions include: 1) Health care education in the military service or training in the military service which is accepted by the licensing body in the jurisdiction in which the individual is licensed as qualifying for full LPN/LVN licensure will be accepted 2) VHA employees who converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7401(3) in implementation of P.L. 98-160 enacted November 21, 1983, and for VHA employees converted to appointments under 38 U.S.C. 7405 in implementation of P.L. 99-576, enacted October 28, 1986 3) Individuals granted a license by a jurisdiction that does not require graduation from an approved school. Must possess and maintain a full, active, current and unrestricted license as a graduate/licens! ed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth ! of the United States or District of Columbia. Physical Requirements - Applicant will be expected to pass and maintain the physical requirements established for this position and is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. English Language Proficiency - Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS: In addition to the basic requirements stated above, the following qualification criteria must be met for each grade. The candidate's qualifications must clearly demonstrate the level of competence required for the grade.
For GS-5: (a) Completion of at least one (1) year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent. (b) Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. (c) Demonstrated ability to serve as a responsible member of the nursing team and interact with patients, and with members of other serv! ices.
For GS-6: In addition to meeting the requirements for the GS-5 level, has completed at least an additional year of qualifying experience at the GS-5 level or equivalent. Has the knowledge and skills necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex practical nursing care assignments, including assignments for selected acute care, long-term or ambulatory care, or psychiatric patients requiring skilled nursing care. Serves as a member of a health care team with these selected patients and provides care to them on a regular and recurring basis.
Completes assigned duties and responsibilities which involve performing nonstandard and specialized practical nursing activities at the GS-6 level, requiring broad work experience and demonstrated skill sufficient to resolve a range of nursing problems.
