Minimum Qualifications:
The following are
required:
Valid Alaska type C related services certificate with an endorsement in Nursing or School Nurse.
Current Alaska RN license.
There is no HQT (Highly Qualified Teacher) designation for this position.
The following is
preferred:
Two years of nursing experience, assessment and referral skills.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities listed below are representative of the essential functions of this position. The successful candidate:
Supports student learning, promotes health and wellness for an entire school.
Provides nursing services including:
screenings
treatments
medic! ation
diabetes and seizure management
health! counseling
linkage with community providers
health promotion
injury and disease prevention education
Actively assists in identifying students with disabilities and participates on multidisciplinary educational teams.
Interprets student's health history and develops plans for those with health needs.
Can describe their philosophy of nursing and demonstrate its relationship to their practice.
Understands how students learn and develop, and applies that knowledge in their practice.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective atmosphere.
Treats students with respect for their individual and cultural characteristics.
Knows their content area and how to apply it in a school setting.
Has the ability to use current technology to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness.
Has the ability to use technology for record-keeping and research.
Facilitates, monitors, and assesses student health.
Creates a nursing environment that is conducive to the practice.
Supervises student environment, students, and volunteers.
Works as a partner with parents, families, and the community.
Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
Participates in and contributes to the educational profession.
Other related duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Demands:
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs.
Additionally, the employee
must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make eff! ective decisions under pressure.
