      About the Position:

      This position is located at the US Army Medical Command, MEDDAC-AK, Maternal Newborn Unit, Fort wainwright, Alaska. This position is for a clinical staff Nurse on a 10 bed level II labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP and level I nursery in a 21 bed MEDDAC that performs an average of 50 deliveries and 225 outpatient/triage visits per month.

      Responsibilities As a Nurse (Clinical/Obstetrics-Gynecology), you will,
      • Provide specialized and comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum nursing care to normal to high-risk obstetric patients
      • Independently determine and implement proper emergency interventions within scope of practice after identifying and interpreting maternal and/or fetal distress and newborns.
      • Administer complex medications by any route as ordered within the guidelines of nursing practice.
      • Utilize the nursing process to formulate a nursing plan of care relative to patients physiological, psychological, and sociological condition in order to provide ongoing and in depth assessment of patient problems, strengths and limitations.
      • Make decisions regarding priorities for patient care for shift assignments and assign duties and delegate patient care to other registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, operating room technicians, and nursing assistants, with consideration of the difficulty and requirements of the assignment and the qualifications and capabilities of the individual.
      • Serve as a resource and role model for other maternal/child nurses and health care providers, including experienced and fully trained registered nurses and resident physicians.
      • Collaborates with physicians and ancillary services to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. Plans, initiates, educates and documents, physical, emotional and spiritual care including patient and family teaching. Serves as a resource for peers and subordinates. Participates in unit process improvement, staff development, and continuing education activities. Promotes positive customer service atmosphere. Maintains practice standards IAW DOD, Joint Commission, Department of the Army, and the American Nursing Association Standards.

      • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing. A job offer to an applicant who is a not a current employee will be withdrawn if the applicant refuses to be tested. Applicants with verified positive test results shall be refused employment. Applications from such individuals shall not be considered for employment for a period of 6 months from the date of the test results.
      • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
      • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
      • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
      • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
      • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Certification.

      Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.       Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical/Obstetrics-Gynecology):

      Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

      Degree from Foreign Nursing School : Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

      Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

      Qualification Requirements: In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
      Education Substitution: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or
      Degree and Experience: Possession of a diploma, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-10 grade level). Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of experience which includes providing comprehensive obstetrics-gynecological nursing care to patients, coordinating patient care, and providing patient or staff education.
