The Department of Corrections, Health & Rehabilitation Services is currently recruiting for full-time Nurse I/II (Registered Nurse) position at the Anchorage Correctional Complex in Anchorage, Alaska.

We seek a highly motivated and qualified Registered Nurse to join our diverse team and provide care to an under-served population.
Recruiting for various week-on, week-off (Thursday through Wednesday) shifts throughout the facility. Areas of work include booking, infirmary and medical clinics.
We are seeking individuals who demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Triage and assess patients; Administer prescribed medications and treatments; Provide general nursing care to patients; Provide, participate, and assist in therapeutic activities; Maintain patient medical records; Observe, document, and report changes in the physical and mental conditions of the inmates; Be team-oriented; and Handle crisis situations in a calm and effective manner. The desired strengths that are essential to this Nurse II position include: Demonstrate excellent work habits such as punctuality, attendance, and observation of safety regulations; Knowledge of commun icable diseases, immunizations, and tuberculosis screening and control; Knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse and related treatment; Experience with medication, administration, and evaluation of responses to medication; and Experience performing therapeutic procedures, such as dressing changes, monitoring blood sugar level, and drawing blood for example. The Department of Corrections offers all of its Nurses free unlimited access to Continuing Education Credits (CEU) through CE Direct.

SPECIAL NOTE: HIRE INCENTIVE BONUS
The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $10,000.00 to newly hired Registered Nurses; $5,000.00 to be paid upon hire and $5,000.00 upon successful completion of the probationary period. To receive the full amount, employees are expected to agree to a three year term of employment with the Department of Corrections. With the exception of lateral transfer or promotion, if the employee volunt arily leaves the position prior to the three year term then the incentive bonus paid will be owed back to the Department on a pro-rated basis according to the employee's length of service. Involuntary separation or resignation during the pendency of an investigation prior to the three year term will result in all paid incentive bonus being owed back to the Department.
SPECIAL NOTE: SALARY
The monthly salary for this position is dependent upon both difficulty in recruitment and the exceptional qualifications of the successful candidate as compared to the applicant pool.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Nurse I
Graduation from a school of nursing, accredited by the National League for Nursing or license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
Special Note:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska is required.
For some positions in this job class a background i nvestigation including fingerprinting is required.
Nurse II
Graduation from a school of nursing accredited by the National League of Nursing or license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
AND
One year of entry level professional nursing. This experience is equivalent to Nurse I with the State of Alaska.
Other combinations of training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability; however, there is no substitution for the required training.
Special Note:
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska is required.
Some positions are located in institutions providing care for psychiatric or developmentally disabled individuals and require one year experience in these specialized fields.
For some positions in this job class a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.
