The PRN Pool is a staffing pool forme! d for the purpose of providing readily available, qualified RN! âs to supplement regularly staffed employees in times of unpredictable absences, FMLA absences, vacancies, or in time of excess census. PRN Pool RNs require one year of acute care experience and must work a minimum of 24 hours in a 2-week period. The PRN Pool staff member is required to float to a minimum of 2 units with an option of picking up more additional units. PRN staff members will receive classroom orientation and clinical orientation, and must demonstrate competency in the required areas of expertise. Pay is hourly plus evening, night or weekend differentials.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Plans and implements nursing care, individualizing care as needed, without supervision. Able to manage routine and emergency care. Assumes basic leadership responsibilities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required

- Ability to operate a variety of automated office equipment such as personal computers, copy machines, calculators, fax machine, multi-line telephone systems, etc.
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from accredited Nursing Program. Bachelorâs degree in Nursing preferred. Completes annual educational requirements.
License(s): Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse licensure (must meet education requirement(s) for Alaska State licensure).
Certification(s): Current BLS for Healthcare Provider ! CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
In ! addition, may require the following certification(s) if working in one of the specified department areas:
ACLS: CCU, ER. OR, PACU
NRP: OB
CPI: ER, MHU, RRC
Experience(s):
PRN Level 1
PRN Level 2
PRN Level 3
Must have successfully completed a six (6) month preceptorship in a specific âhomeâ unit or training to the level of independent practice on that home unit as determined by the âhomeâ unit manager.
Must have a minimum of two (2) recent years of full time experience in an acute care organization or 4160 hours of PRN level 1 experience at BRH over the past few years.
Must have a minimum of three (3) recent years of full time experience in an acute care organization or 6240 hours of PRN Level 1&2 experience at BRH over the past few years.
Physical: Requires good general health. Moderate to occasional heavy lifting. Extensive standing, walk! ing and handling of patients, equipment and supplies. Shift work including weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required. Physical and emotional stress associated in dealing with the varied physio/psychosocial needs of patients. Manual dexterity for key boarding. clinical skills and operation of patient care equipment.
Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Wears identification while on duty. Complies with state and federal laws for employee health requirements, such as TB testing and other requirements (see Employee Health Policy for specific requirements). Hazardous Exposure/Working Conditions : Potential exposure to hazardous materials/situation includi! ng, but not limited to, blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, v! iolent behaviors, chemical elements. Exposed to hazards associated with electrical equipment. Work is carried out in clinical, office, and classroom settings. Occasional irregular hours.
