Job Posting Summary
UAA School of Nursing seeks an energetic individual who has a passion for building strong nursing education programs that address health care challenges in the State of Alaska and beyond. This is an exciting new and innovative position that is the result of a unique partnership between the University of Alaska Anchorage School of Nursing and the Alaska Psychiatric Institute. The person who fills this position will have the opportunity to forge new ground in the arena of University and Community partnerships. Faculty member will support University of Alaska tripartite mission of performing teaching, service and scholarship. Provide classroom and clinical teaching to graduate nursing! students; work with other faculty to plan, implement and evaluate existing curricula. Service component consists of the provision of psychiatric care to patients at Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API). Shares duties on an inpatient unit with a psychiatrist, providing the evaluation and clinical psychiatric services for patients admitted to API. Assumes direct clinical responsibility for fundamental decisions regarding patient care and management. Collaborates, as needed, in medical decision making with an attending psychiatrist and discussion of treatment team planning. Authorize by an electronically signed order all diagnostic or treatment actions relating to patient care. Management of treatment may occur at an API affiliated institution or program (e.g. through Telebehavioral Health Consultation). Scholarship is included in the work expectations of doctorally prepared faculty and can be accomplished in both the University and clinical settings. UAA faculty positions may ! be represented by a collective bargaining agreement.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills Experience working with private and public external constituencies. Ability to advocate for the University Effectively represent the State of Alaska Mental Health policies and programs.
Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).
Must hold at least one post-baccalaureate degree in nursing with preparation as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Must hold a doctorate degree, or show evidence of current enrollment in a doctoral program, or provide written intent to enroll in a doctoral program within 12 months of hire. Clinical experience in psychiatric mental health is required. Must be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska. Must be eligible for authorization as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in State of Alaska.

Teaching and curriculum development experience in nursing is required. Applicants with experience in distance delivery of instruction is desired. Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment. Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred either by institutions of higher education which are accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education as determined by UAA based on a review by a foreign educational credential evaluation service and recognized by UAA.

Duty:
Job Duties: The position will ! have a partial faculty workload that will include didactic and clinical teaching in our Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Graduate Program. Opportunities will be also available for research and scholarship within the University faculty system. The position will also include a clinical component that consists of a client caseload at our only public psychiatric facility in Alaska with privileges to independently admit, discharge, diagnose, supervise and manage hospitalized patients. The caseload may include patients managed through Alaska Psychiatric Institute's Telebehavioral Health Care Clinic, a virtual clinic that serves multiple rural and frontier healthcare centers throughout the State of Alaska.
In addition, will prescribe medications, conduct individual therapy and psycho-educational groups, plan
and conduct special therapeutic procedures, including the development of individual treatment plans for each patient admitted with the patient´s invo! lvement (and family or friends as appropriate), including the developme! nt of individualized behavior plans. May also participate in API´s Telebehavioral Health Care program as needed/desired.
