Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
Develop skills in the techniques required to provide medical assessments, treatments and counseling to residents within scope of authority.
Assist in providing consultation and nursing services to special patient categories; provides general and special health counseling, patient care instructions, and treatment services, and family planning counseling.
Assist in providing infant and child health assessment, screening and immunization services; educates parents on child development issues ! and refers clients to other community services.
Support an! d enhance the patients’ physical and emotional stability; explains nature of illness, plan of care, procedures and treatments to patients, family and significant others
Prepare correspondence, referrals, social histories, narrative nursing activity reports; updates and maintains a variety of files, records, charts and other documents; gathers, compiles and synthesizes data; maintains appropriate records, prepares reports as required, and maintains patient confidentiality.
Present outreach programs; talks to community groups regarding program services.
Confer and collaborate with other professionals to provide continuum of care.
Present patient and family teaching programs based on identified health care goals.
In the event of an emergency, will follow responsibilities as outlined in the North Slope Borough and program policies and procedures and the CEMP manual.
Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including ! HIPAA requirements.
Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
Travel to the villages within the North Slope Borough.
May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Department and Borough policies and procedures.
Knowledge of nursing principles and practices of Health teaching, counseling and interviewing.
Knowledge of local community resources.

Demonstrated work experience using PC and common software applications.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required:
RN Program Diploma or Associate Degree
Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse.
This is a career ladder position; the incumbent must obtain certification as ! required by and within time periods specified in the attached chart for! advancement.
For each requirement obtained based on the attached schedule, the incumbent will receive pay increases for levels within each level. If the incumbent fails to renew certifications as required, the North Slope Borough will consider expired certificates as not valid; therefore, the incumbent’s rate of pay will be adjusted accordingly.

Note: Public Health Nursing Substitute employees work on an as-needed basis as nonpermanent employees for the borough and therefore have no assurance of continued employment, nor are substitute employees guaranteed future scheduling based upon satisfactory performance. The Borough may release substitute employees without cause, effective upon oral notice by the supervisor.
Substitute employees must maintain all required licensure and certification requirements.

**Areas of Competency include, but are not limited to the following: STI, TB, immunization, well-child exams and development, family planning, domestic violence and emergency preparedness, or other areas as defined by evolving community public health issues and designated statewide PHN goals. Certifications must be kept current to retain the increase.

*** Increase by additional $0.35 per year of confirmed work experience in any nursing field.
